PAINKILLERS

While prescription drugs can be helpful when used correctly, certain drugs, especially painkillers, can be highly addictive.

Much like heroin, these drugs force your brain to release dopamine, and this can become addictive.

Among the side effects of abuse of painkillers are: 

  • Slower breathing and heart rate

  • withdrawal symptoms, including insomnia, diarrhea, and vomiting

  • death​​

Concerned about someone you know? Signs of prescription painkiller abuse can include: 

  • small pupils

  • noticeable euphoria

  • drowsiness or passing out

  • constipation

  • slowed breathing

  • confusion

  • behavioral changes such as isolation, dramatic mood swings, and visits to multiple doctors seeking prescription drugs
